The concert is behind us and we are moving forward towards our next composer and his most famous ballet..."The Nutcracker Suite!" Students will begin to learn about Peter Tchaikovsky and a few of his pieces from his ballet. We will have listening maps, rhythm activities, composition activities & coloring activities.
Students will be able to recognize ABA form, instrument families, and describe Tchaikovsky's life when we are finished in January. When we return in January, students will begin to learn letter names of notes to lead into the Recorder Unit. More information will be sent home after the Holiday Break regarding recorders. I can't wait to start recorders and am excited to introduce students to "The Nutcracker Suite"

I can't believe it is already the middle of November! The 4th grade classes have been working extremely hard at learning how to read and perform rhythms. This is a tricky concept to learn because there is a large jump from speaking a rhythm while keeping the beat to speaking AND performing the rhythm. This is a very musical group of students and they've been doing well with the transition.
We have also began working on our Christmas songs for the Concert on December 7th. We will be singing two songs as a grade level plus the all school song. The all school song will provide opportunities for students to have a solo as well as provide a place for a small ensemble of 4th & 5th grade singers. Ask your children to sing their Christmas songs for you, they've really been doing a great job in class! I'm sure they would love to sing them for you at home! I will see you all on December 7th at 6:30pm for the annual Elementary Christmas Program! |
