With the concert behind us, we can now begin to learn about our December/January composer- Peter Tchaikovsky. On December 8th, the students read a short biography about him and then listened to a podcast filled with interesting information about him and his music. The students took a short quiz and even learned how to turn their "American" name into a "Russian" name!
Ask your students what their name in Russian would sound like :) We will listen to pieces from Tchaikovsky's most famous ballet- "The Nutcracker Suite". Listening maps, rhythm activities and emotions in music will be discussed between now and January.

The Holiday Season is upon us! The 3rd grade classes have been working hard this year and have learned a lot! This month we started working on Christmas Music in class. It's a lot to learn but it is so much fun! This year students will the opportunity to have a speaking line and possibly a solo!
The songs for our concert are posted to the right of this page. I hope they are able to listen to the songs and practice at home! There seems to be a big jump from second to third grade in the music classroom. The students have been doing well with the transition so far this year.
Not only are there more responsibilities but they also start learning true music vocabulary! This means they are learning Italian terms, and learning fractions in music class! We've started the year with learning/reviewing Melody, Pitch, and Steady Beat. We've also introduce melodic shape and have discussed how each song has it's own shape. We will soon do a drawing activity while listening to a song where each student will draw the shape of that particular listening sample. I can't wait to see what the drawings look like! |
